The most important thing in every work, and first of all, is writing, creating and developing characters. I hope everyone will pay attention to that. Let's wait and see what the Show will offer us., I'm waiting ..

Wow. This is just terrible. There's no other word for it other than that. Firstly, the casting is just plain awful. Diversity for the sake of diversity takes its toll yet again, with people being cast into roles with the wrong ethnicity for that particular part. This is even more insulting considering the fact that the world all of this takes place in, already has tons of diversity in it to begin with. Don't shove it in where it doesn't belong! Storywise... ooh boy. So much has been changed. And look, I get that book adaptations need certain elements changed in order to better fit a visual medium. And some changes they made, are fine. But let me just list some things that are completely wrong: The whole concept of the Dragon. The show opens with a very brief description of who the Dragon is. The Dragon is the reincarnation of a male Aes Sedai who broke the world in ages past. Concise, but true. Good enough. But then they go on and say that this reincarnation could be either male or female? That makes no sense at all! The Dragon has to be male, because he's the reincarnation of a male Aes Sedai, and he will break the world a second time, just like he did before. Finding the Dragon. Nobody knows who the Dragon Reborn is. People find out because he starts fulfilling the prophecies written about him just by being born in a certain place and on a certain time. That's how Moiraine narrows it down to the Two Rivers, by finding out about some young people there that fit those criteria. In this adaptation, all Aes Sedai have some sort of spidey sense that can pinpoint the Dragon. Lazy writing at its best. The world itself. It should be winter, due to the Dark One's grasp increasing on the world. This is a big plot point, which causes visible distress with pretty much everyone, affecting their doings and thoughts, and in this adaptation they just dumb it down to "something drove the wolves down the mountain". It's spring in this version, and birds can be heard in pretty much every scene. Characters not acting the way they should. Nynaeve is much too serene, Moiraine isn't serene enough, Egwene is much too mature, Perrin is much too jokey, Mat isn't jokey enough and much too responsible, and so on. Characters' backstories changed to completely change their personality even further. Mat suddenly has abusive parents. Perrin, who is consistently described in the books as a shy, awkward, careful, peaceloving guy, not only has a girlfriend in this adaptation (his finding his first love in Faile Bashere later on is also a huge plot point that they dismissed by doing this), but he murders her in a fit of blind rage. Nynaeve is suddenly a "lost child", just so they could add her to the possible list of nonsensical Dragon candidates. Because suddenly the Aes Sedai spidey sense doesn't work anymore. Rand and Egwene having a full on sexual relationship while they're supposed to be a coming-of-age story that never works out for them. Forced edginess. Nudity and sex scenes, while sparse, are shoved in your face so forcefully that you can just tell one of the producers saw Game of Thrones and told the script writers to shove "some of that" in there. There is a LOT more wrong with this cesspool of an adaptation in terms of story, but those are some of the big ones. Also just overall bad acting and bad CGI. The CGI looks like a videogame from the mid 2010's. I really wanted to like this, but no amount of goodwill can save this absolute mess of a show.

They wanted rings and thrones and got shadow and bones

This was a great series of books, that, in many ways, established a genre. I think it will be a great series, as well. It has the feel of an epic. Amazon has given it a healthy budget and Robert Jordan’s canon is extensive. These first three episodes had to cover a great deal of ground in a very short amount of time but, unlike other commentators, I feel they did it successfully. The characters are engaging. The cast is excellent and their performances are solid. The venues outside of Prague are spectacularly beautiful. Now, we just have to wait for the series to drop episode by episode (my least favourite way to stream). If it keeps this up the ratings should just climb. I give these first three episodes an 8 (great) out of 10. [Fantasy Adventure]

Robert Jordan was the Tolkien of his time. The Wheel of Time series is a fantastic epic and I hope Amazon does it justice. I’ll be updating my review at a later date!

This is an awful adaptation, they left only names and major action events, changing everything else for unknown reason: character personalities, adding characters, scenes, etc. Unbelievable.

This really hurts. They ruined it like most of the new so called fantasy stuff is. The male actor really has his 2021 normal haircut... Did not bother to modify it a bit. And... Arwen allways has perfect make-up. Another series where everyone is a model.

"Cheap fantasy productions" and their "forced diversity" make me throw up. All of the shows like The Shannara Chronicles, Shadowhunters, Wheel of Time, Fate: The Winx Saga etc. are copies of each other. Why don't they stop producing such garbage shows? Same story line, same effects, garbage cast... Why? If you are not going to produce something like Battlestar Galactica or Game of Thrones then don't do it.

I say looks promising but can't judge just from the beginning of the series but We have seen all streaming services trying to adapt novels And ruining them I'd still prefer to watch a movie adaptation of these novels like the harry potter franchise Nevertheless, I guess this isn't too bad. I just hope they don't drop this like any great series that got canceled because of a fund or low rating. If they hold on to it it will maybe be a big blockbuster like Game of Thrones but you know these companies only care about money and not the opinions of people so as an adaptation this looks good but it will need a push from fans and a strong cast to carry it and The trailer was shit, period.

The first episode drew out the story for a long time, until a the last minute a lady who came to town takes four youths with her, because they need to be protected. The stretching things out style of storytelling is not interesting to me. It made me feel like everything they showed before in the episode was pointless. Sort of like the whole episode was time filler.

I have not read the books and I found the first episode so slow and boring I don't know if I want to go on. This whole episode should have been done in 20 minutes. None of the characters grabbed me and the acting is so poor. I wanted to like it, as I'm a huge fan of fantasy, but this is so bad.

This clusterfuck Amazon created worries me about Lord of the Rings.

After the hype I heard, that Bezos wanted something to match GoT, this series felt like a wet squib. They are trying, I'll say that for them, but mostly it's very trying.

What a disappointment and waist of time… :face_vomiting:

One of the worst series ever made. So terrible, and nothing like the original books' themes. Also, a total ripoff of Game of Thrones.

Unfortunately, we are in a post-GOT era in which no one accept that not every fantasy TV series need to include sexual content, have dragons, and use well-known cast and crew.

Love the series. I have read the books until Tower of Midnight and this TV adaptation is really great. I love the casting and all characters are spot on how I remember them to be. Yes the Tv Series rushes some plot points and switches places and where characters are introduced but its OK we have lots of books to get material from. Also the part where the characters are a bit older is a win for me. Perrin married was a new one. I don't care about small details since the main story is intact. The character arcs are there. I Also love that we now can skip all the boring parts of the books where clothes and environments are written down in excruciating detail. Also the 1st book is the worst one in my opinion so skipping there Is no big deal. The Whitecloaks are awesome in the Tv-series. Abdul Salis as Eamon Valda just kills it. Cant remember that character being that evil but he just nails it. Doing what they do with Logain story is great. I'm happy and hope the series will go on for many years to come.

I can understand that fans of the ip are discontent, but thn again fans always are. As someone who doesn't know anything about the source material I think this show is just excellent. The cast is great and diverse, the writing is good and it keeps me wanting more every episode

I loved the books. I started reading them during my first year in college, 1990, all the way through the last book released during 2013. I’ve read all of them 4 times, except the last one which I’ve read 3 times. The acting is consistently excellent, the casting is very good. The show gets many things right visually and does many things cinematically that range from great to a couple of things that are pretty poor, such as the depiction of The Fingers of the Dragon delta of the Erinin river (which looked hilariously NOTHING remotely like a river delta). The story itself has been problematic. I expected some changes to be made, but what I can’t stomach is that some of the relationships have changed, some minor and some major. For instance, Morraine being “pillow friends” with Siuane Sanche? The show runner says that “clearly this relationship existed between them in the books.” Man, I’m calling this out as a big-ass pile of B.S. if I’ve ever heard it. There was absolutely NO justification for other than representation for representation sake. Other times there are conflicts between characters that NEVER existed for no apparent good reason. A good example would be Agelmar accusing Morraine of meddling in his ruling decisions. This serves no purpose, but who knows maybe that purpose will be payed off in the future. These are just two examples of many, many others I could name, but there is not enough space to include them here. The show runner needs to be a better writer and/or be surrounded by better writers. The production crew needs to deliver better value for the bucket loads of money Amazon gave three at them. I don’t know if they have consulted Harriet McDougal on any of these changes, but maybe they should and then ACTUALLY listen to her. Brandon Sanderson gets executive producer credits so I’m certain they have consulted him but I’m not convinced that they listened to him. On the other hand, if these changes were a result of listening to Brandon then maybe he should not be heavily consulted in the future. I do not know the specifics here, I just know that something HAS to change in the future because this is getting really hard to watch.
